: A prepaid debt card means you put money on it when you purchase it. So if you purchase it for let's say $100 then that's what is on there. Some have fees attached to them, but the ones I have see like an American Express card you would pay a $5.95 activation fee. If you are looking for one do your research first for the best option for you. I don't know a lot about them myself just a little that I have seen in stores like American Express or Visa. There are a lot of them out there and each has their own fees, and what not.

: It's basically you pay $100 for a $100 card, only then there are fees deducted from that $100...like an activation fee of $5, or a per use fee of $1.

So, you pay $100 and you get to spend like $90 of it using the card, the other $10 goes to the card issuing company.

They are basically a huge rip-off...but if you need a card to purchase something online or something and do not have a credit or debit card, this is one way you can do it, but you are paying to be able to spend your own money.
